Demarcus Buice gets his bond
Posted by: Cap'n Ken in East Atlanta, tags: court, crime, demarcus buiceDisappointing news out of DeKalb court today - accused serial burglar Demarcus Buice was granted bond after being denied bond last Saturday when Buzzers showed up for court. And while his bond is what a Buzzer with DA connections calls very high for the crimes he’s charged with ($125,000), it’s quite disheartening to go from feeling like citizens can make a difference to feeling like a sucker for even trying in the span of five days.
And the assistant district attorney who spoke for the state Saturday had told us this hearing was no big deal and we didn’t need to turn out for it. Gee, thanks for that.
How long it’ll take for Buice’s family to find enough of the cash Demarcus has made stealing flat-panel TVs and laptops or fence some of the “inventory” he no doubt has stashed somewhere to raise the bond is unclear. But if he ends up back on the street before trial, the message will be clear that DeKalb Superior Court isn’t willing to protect citizens against the thugs preying on our neighborhoods.

Does anyone know the name of the judge?
I want to make sure she/he knows the full extent of our displeasure and make sure she/he is never re-elected to their position.
Anyone with the information, please email me.

Many thanks.

I just called directly and spoke with ADA Dana Lawrence concerning the fine upstanding citizen Demarcus Buice making bond. She was kind enough to give me the website gacourts.org (statewide website must select Dekalb co.) and all the information for the case. Magistrate Joyce Averils was the individual that denied his bond. In her ultimate wisdom, Magistrate Kathy K. Dorough was the individual that awarded bond to him on appeal so that he would be able to assemble his defense. Apparently, she missed the part where he confessed on video tape to the individual victims in the court room at the first bond hearing. She is an appointed Magistrate and her address is 125 Clairmont Ave. Decatur, Ga 30030 for those that would like to hopefully express their displeasure with her questionable judgment.
I also made a phone call to Chief Magistrate Justice Winston Bethel he is the elected individual that appointed Mag. Kathy K. Dorough. His address and phone number, for those wishing to express displeasure with his judgment for having appointed someone to her position that obviously failed to examine all of the facts in the case, is 1200 Dekalb Co. Judicial Tower Decatur, Ga 30030 phone# 404-371-4766. I requested a phone call in response to my question as to the reasoning for him being granted bail. Last time I checked the defendants attorney’s had unlimited access to them in the Dekalb Co. jail where they belong assembling their defense! I emphasized the fact that he confessed to the crimes to the law abiding tax paying victims / residents at the first bond hearing. I also emphasized the fact which seemed to escape her judgment at the second bond hearing being that he previously fled prosecution to the state of South Carolina having demonstrated his willingness to flee and total disregard / lack of respect for the judicial system! I also pointed out that it is probable that with connections in South Carolina that not only fleeing but more than likely also transporting stolen merchandise across state lines translates to a Federal Offense.
I am sorry for the rant but I have personally been victimized twice now by Demarcus and his band of thieves. I was unable to attend his first bond hearing however was very grateful to those that were able and assisted in effecting appropriate justice. With that being said, it was all wiped out with one individual’s lack of judgment. With individuals such as this as well as those elected individuals who are responsible for their appointment and whose salaries are paid for by our law abiding tax dollars (because somehow I question if Demarcus declared taxes on the high dollar items he stole from my house as well as others) is it any wonder the crime etc in our City does not improve? Is it any wonder the level of frustration of the fine police officers that spent a tremendous amount of time (once again paid for by us as victimized citizens probably not Demarcus) apprehending this criminal. Then a single individual charged with the job of enacting justice through our criminal justice system, in their safe little isolated air conditioned office, to wipe out all of this justice and hard work with one swoop of their golden pen?
Please write the above posted offices of Winston Bethel and Kathy K. Dorough!!!! Without responsible individuals at their level, all ground level efforts made by us as citizens and the Police Department to improve our fine City are ultimately defeated.
Sincerely,
Fed up citizen
